My Top 3 Insights on Self-Discipline (from Dan Koe)

Idea 1: Clarity is the root problem of self-discipline.

  • Self-discipline is something that comes naturally, not something that is forced.
  • Not saying it’s easy; it’s just more of a fact that you are accountable for what you do because that is who you are.
  • The more clarity you have within yourself and who you want to be, the more you realize that self-discipline is actually easier than you think.
  • You gain clarity through education and action.

Idea 2: You build different identities so eventually you will become a big integral one who will be able to shapeshift through them.

  • The more identities you go through in life, the more perspectives you have.
  • Ask yourself, who do you want to become? And why?
  • Don’t stick to an identity for too long because one may think that it is them, but it isn’t, and that is how others lose themselves. Who you really are is the person shapeshifting through the identities, because who else would it be?

Idea 3: Not related to the video, but moments like these are the reason why I keep learning.

  • I love moments like these, where I get many realizations and clarity from a video, which makes me want to keep learning and learning.
  • Not having moments like these would scare me, and I know there is so much information out there that I am missing, which pushes me to keep looking.
