I let myself be bored, and think.
It’s so hard not to be bored because we have many options to choose from nowadays. We are constantly looking for the next dopamine hit, but the more pleasures we get, the harder it is to let ourselves be bored.
If we can’t be bored, then we can’t let ourselves think. It is hard to grab great ideas if we can’t let ourselves think. As Naval said, ‘Better bored than busy.’ Most of my realizations and great ideas came from my backyard or lying down in my room with all technology off. In both situations, I was doing absolutely nothing but thinking.
Letting yourself be bored to think can surprisingly be fun. Being bored and having fun don’t usually match, but somehow they do. It’s only fun when you have an objective in life and know what to think about.
Give yourself something important to think about, and possibly bring it to real life. Some good ideas to start with are mindless activities, such as going on walks or drives with no music (there are more, but these are the ones I usually do).
